ESP Certificate - Credit for Prior Learning

Participants in the WEA Academy ESP Certificate Level II Program may be able to apply prior learning for credit toward completion of the program. The ESP Level II Credit for Prior Learning Application Form must be completed and submitted to the WEA Academy for approval along with the application fee of $20 per course being requested for approval. Approval will be based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance - How does your learning from the completed course relate to the ESP Certificate Category for which you are requesting approval? What did you learn? How have you applied that learning or how do you apply that learning in your current educational situation?
  • Completion Date - Each course must have been completed within five years from the date of application for ESP Certificate Program approval.
  • Duration - Up to 15 hours of ESP Certificate credit may be applied per undergraduate or graduate credit earned for each course.
  • Accredited institution - For prior learning credit approval, the provider must be an accredited university or college.
  • ESP Certificate - Each course requested may be applied in only one ESP Certificate category.
  • For each course that is approved for prior learning credit, the maximum number of hours that will apply toward the ESP Certificate Level II program (for grades of C or higher or Pass if Pass/Fail) are as follow:
    • Option 1: Two Specialized Study Categories
      • Up to 20 hours of prior learning credit may be applied toward the 20 hours of General Studies
      • Up to 15 hours of prior learning credit may be applied toward the 30 hours of Specialized Studies for each Category selected
    • Option 2: One Specialized Study Category
      • Up to 20 hours of prior learning credit may be applied toward the 20 hours of General Studies
      • Up to 30 hours of prior learning credit may be applied toward the 60 hours of Specialized Studies for the Category selected
  • Transcript(s) from the college or university must be provided.
