MEETING THE NEEDS OF ALL STUDENTS, K–12 (CEDUC 619)

This course provides teachers with proven strategies and classroom management techniques to help them reach all of their students regardless of ability, language development, race, socioeconomic status, gender, and/or learning challenges. The featured expert who provides commentary for this course is Dr. Carol Ann Tomlinson.

  • Apply strategies to increase student engagement, address students’ individual learning styles, and verify teaching effectiveness.
  • Strengthen partnerships with parents to facilitate academic achievement of students.
  • Deepen understanding of student variance, and apply strategies to support: cognitive impairments, difficulties attending to task, learning disabilities, English language learners, above-average abilities, and students who are at risk of failure.

Dr. Carol Ann Tomlinson is associate professor of Educational Leadership, Foundations, and Policy at The Curry School of Education, University of Virginia. She is co-director of the University of Virginia’s Summer Institute on Academic Diversity and secretary of the Executive Board of the National Association for Gifted Children. Dr. Tomlinson was a public school teacher for 21 years, working at the preschool, middle school, and high school levels. In 1974, she received Virginia’s Teacher of the Year award.

As part of the WEA Academy mission, we strive to improve the quality of professional development for all educators. The Academy has partnered with Cardinal Stritch University and Teachscape, a provider of online professional development for K–12 educators. Teachscape-developed online courses for graduate credit are available to WEAC members from NCA and NCATE accredited Cardinal Stritch University.
 

The WEA Academy recommends that educators enroll and take this course with other colleagues and educators they work with.  Collaboration is an important component in professional learning for educators, and since this is an independent learning course, cohort learning is ideal for this situation.

For successful completion of this course, you will earn three graduate credits through the University Outreach Professional Development Department at Cardinal Stritch University. The course may be completed where and when it’s best for you in a self-paced, independent online study format. Work at your own pace, and finish the class within a 17-week deadline. Regular tuition is $450 for each course which includes all materials; however, WEAC members receive an additional $100 discount for each course for a final tuition rate of $350/course.
