ESSENTIALS OF MENTORING THE INITIAL EDUCATOR (CEDUC 633)

A primary intent of this course is to provide teachers with quality mentor training sessions to meet the requirements of Wisconsin Administrative Rules PI 34 Teacher Education, Program Approval and Licensure. The EMIE training program focuses on Wisconsin’s PI 34 requirements and the changing role for mentors to fulfill mentor responsibilities. The purpose of the EMIE training program is two-fold:

Ø To deliver the knowledge, skills, and dispositions for professionals to mentor initial educators under the requirements of PI 34, and

Ø  To build a strong professional mentoring community committed to supporting professional growth that connects in positive ways to student learning.

The content is applicable immediately to the job setting with or without being assigned an initial educator. By learning the PI 34 process of writing a PDP, using standards, reflecting on performance, setting a long-term goal that connects professional growth to student learning, mentors as well as initial educators calibrate and increase their professional performance to see how their professional growth affects the students they serve.
