How to Recover After a School Crisis
June 13 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm CDT
School and community crises have the potential to cause short- and long-term effects on the psychological functioning, academic achievement, emotional adjustment, health, and developmental trajectory of students. This presentation will provide practical suggestions on how to identify common adjustment difficulties in children in the aftermath of a crisis and to promote effective coping strategies to mitigate the impact of the crisis. Our presenter, David J Schonfeld, MD, established and directs the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement at the University of Southern California and will draw on more than 30 years’ experience responding to school and community crisis events to provide examples and answer questions from participants. Free resources for supporting children, families and professionals in the aftermath of crisis and loss will be highlighted.
