Spanish for Educators provides teachers with basic skills to communicate with Spanish-speaking students and families. In this ten-module course, participants will learn how to give simple classroom instructions, ask questions and respond appropriately in basic conversational Spanish. Each module includes a “mini action research” activity where participants practice speaking with parents and/or students in an authentic situation and write a brief reflection on this experience. In addition, participants will study educational trends to support the education of Spanish-speaking students and learn strategies to help them succeed. To promote cultural understanding, participants will learn about the practices and perspectives of various Spanish-speaking cultures. Each participant will create a portfolio of conversational sentences unique to their subject area or practice to communicate with Spanish-speaking students and families.
