Research suggests that the best professional learning is on the job. Whether that be by observing or working with other educators directly, teachers’ busy schedules don’t always allow for time to learn in this way. The professional development courses provided by WEA Academy allow educators to take courses they want on their own time to further their professional goals.
The WEA Academy core mission embraces the idea of offering professional development courses that are for teachers because the courses are by teachers. For example, Mukwonago Nationally Board Certified teacher and instructor of Spanish for Educators Meg Graham designed the course so teachers could “learn very basic, authentic communication to connect with families and their students.”
Teacher-created and -instructed courses ensure effectiveness as well as efficiency because educators will learn the key concepts of each course to best apply what they learn to their own teaching. Educators are also able to interact and connect with instructors who understand the challenges that come with professional development.
The WEA Academy offers a variety of online courses and book studies along with over 100 micro-credentials. You can find more information and access to micro-credentials by following this link.
With the variety of professional development courses provided by classroom teachers of the WEA Academy, educators can expand their knowledge of ever-changing learning environments and translate that knowledge into skills they can bring into their own classrooms.
When educators further their learning, the benefits trickle down to their students making their classrooms and schools better learning environments.
